Large Anglo-French White and Black Hound

Character
In the 19th century, hunting was an art, a sport for the elite, a fashion trend throughout Europe, with France and England being the trendsetters. This period is considered golden for the development of hound breeds – selection was carried out at a stunning pace! Among the species that appeared at this time were the Anglo-French hounds – the result of crossing English and French dogs. The large Anglo-French white and black hound is no exception, it originated from the Saintongeois, one of the best French hounds at that time, and the English foxhound .
Unfortunately, there are not many representatives of this breed in the world today, no more than 2-3 thousand. However, French breeders are working hard on quality and increasing its numbers.
The large Anglo-French white and black hound is distinguished by its docile character and impressive hunting skills. It is a natural fighter, passionate, strong and uncompromising.
Even puppies of this breed show their character. Therefore, breeders begin training their charges when they are 3-4 months old. At first, training takes place in a playful manner, and then – quite seriously.
At the same time, training a hound is not easy – a beginner is unlikely to cope with its character. So the help of a dog trainer will be necessary.
The large Anglo-French white and black hound is not aggressive, peaceful, although it can hardly be called sociable. Representatives of the breed are rather cool towards strangers and do not seek rapprochement. However, everything depends on the specific dog.
Like many hounds, this breed is unlikely to be a good guard dog. Aggression, one of the key traits of a good guard dog, is considered a vice of this breed.
Hounds are pack animals. Therefore, it is easy for them to find a common language with their relatives. Moreover, in a house where such a pet is kept, it is desirable to have at least one more dog.
The large Anglo-French black and white hound does not have a reputation as a nanny, but gets along well with school-age children. It’s all in the training.
Care
The large English-French white and black hound has short hair that does not require careful grooming. Every week the dog is wiped with a damp hand or towel to remove fallen hair. During the shedding period, the procedure is carried out a little more often, usually two combings are enough.
Conditions of detention
Representatives of the breed do not tolerate being kept in a small apartment. Large hounds need space and intense physical exercise, long, exhausting runs. So it is difficult to imagine a large Anglo-French white and black hound as an ordinary companion, it is still a hunter.
