Character

The Alaskan Husky is not recognized by the International Cynological Federation , but it is a fairly ancient breed, the history of which is inextricably linked with the development of Alaska. The first dogs appeared in the North together with the Eskimo tribes about four and a half thousand years ago.

Genetic analysis has shown that the Alaskan Husky is a close relative of the Alaskan Malamute and the Siberian Husky . However, unlike its relatives, it developed unsystematically, mostly in villages and towns.

Today, fans of the breed not only fight for its recognition, but also care about the working characteristics of dogs. They are crossed with pointers, shepherds and even with saluki .

The breeders’ efforts are not in vain. The Alaskan Husky is a true service dog that still participates in winter sports competitions and is a great companion for active people.

Like the Siberian Husky, the Alaskan Husky is incredibly energetic and active. It cannot sit still. And the owner must be prepared for this: the dog will require 100% attention and a lot of free time. Otherwise, its character will deteriorate, and as a result, the pet may become uncontrollable. And this will manifest itself in damaged furniture, clothes and shoes.

In addition, the Alaskan Husky can demonstrate independence and persistence in achieving the goal. Unfortunately, this is not always a positive character trait. For example, in the process of training. If the pet is not interested, it will quickly get bored and, most likely, will not perform even the simplest commands. And training with a Husky is not so easy. A beginner is unlikely to cope with the upbringing of such a wayward pet. So an owner without experience is better off immediately contacting a professional dog trainer.

The Alaskan Husky gets along best with school-age children. Playing together outdoors, active entertainment – all this brings the dog and younger family members closer together. But it is better not to leave the pet alone with small children, so that it does not accidentally injure the child.

The situation when a baby appears in the house deserves special attention. It is important to make the dog understand that this is not a competitor, but a member of the family. Then the dog will not try to draw attention to itself and return the love of the “leader”.

Alaskan Huskies find it easy to get along with animals in the apartment. They are sociable and open dogs.

Care
The Alaskan Husky’s thick coat should be brushed weekly, and during the shedding season in the fall and spring, this procedure should be done twice a week.

Conditions of detention

An Alaskan Husky can live in a city apartment, but the owner will have to make an effort to provide it with a sufficient level of physical activity. The dog must be walked at least 2-3 hours a day, offered games, fetching , running. The best option is winter sports – for example, sled racing or skipulling .
